Sir Isaac Newton once said: "In the absence of any other proof, the thumb alone would convince me of God's existence."
Why did God make us in his image? Ultimately, God created us for an eternal relationship with Him. This God who created us made us in His image, a fact repeated twice in Genesis 1:27. In the New Testament, these words come back to us when Jesus is approached about rendering taxes unto Caesar.
Psalm 8:1-9 ESV | To the choirmaster: A Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
Psalm 139:13-14 ESV | For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
What is God's love called? Within Christianity, agape is considered to be the love originating from God or Christ for humankind.
John 3:16-17 ESV | “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
1 Corinthians 15:45-49 ESV | Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual. The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
2 Corinthians 4:16 ESV | So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
Romans 8:14-15 ESV | For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Steven Curtis Chapman Lyrics
"Fingerprints Of God"
I can see tears filling your eyes
And I know where they're coming from
They're coming from a heart that's broken
in two by what you don't see.
The person in the mirror
Doesn't look like the magazine
Oh, but when I look at you it's clear to me
that I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it's true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God
Never has there been and never again
Will there be another you fashioned
by God's hand
And perfectly planned
To be just who you are
And what He's been creating
Since the first beat of your heart
Is a living breathing priceless work of art.
And I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it's true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God
Just look at you
You're a wonder in the making
Oh, and God's not through no
In fact he's just getting started
And I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it's true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God.
